Hullo there! My name is Xiao'an, and I am a composer, and music director based in Boston. I comfortably straddle both the analog and digital worlds of music production, but specialize in writing for live musicians or live simulated ensembles.
What can you expect from working with me? I am always on-spec, consistently communicative, punctual, and reliable. No endless revisions necessary! I'm also a pretty fun guy and a problem solver.
Let's have a blast!

"... A one-stop shop for everything from silly jingles to full-on orchestral scores; his first project was above and beyond, and he’s been on the top of our list ever since. An absolute pro who just “gets it". We can't recommend Li Xiao’an enough!! 5 stars!"

My name might mislead you into believing that I learned to play the piano flawlessly from youth while being beaten with a large stick. My musical origins, however, are less dramatic, but far more interesting.
2004. Singapore. A certain sixteen year old sang lead vocals in a classic rock cover band. It sounded like a bag of dying cats, but sparked a lifelong obsession with cacophony. This became evident to my family when my father caught me practising guitar on the toilet while simultaneously making a large deposit.
The magic of the internets and endless practice allowed me to develop fairly quickly, and I began playing guitar for chart topping pop artists and producers from major pop labels such as Universal and Warner. I served my country as a touring army musician and performed at home and in the far-off lands of Brunei and Australia.
I then studied Jazz Composition at Berklee College of Music, where I won multiple endowed scholarship awards, annoyed my professors, and wrote for/conducted some of the school's top ensembles and concerts.
To this date, my work as a composer and orchestrator has been featured on commercial pop records, films, major TV network shows in China and the USA, video games, electronic greeting cards, religious music and other projects.
I currently run and own East Coast Scoring, which provides orchestral contracting and production services with highly trained Boston-area musicians.
I have been an invited speaker at Berklee, the Indie Game Collective, The Boston Festival of Indie Games, MAGfest 2016, Playcrafting Boston, the Boston Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, and the East Coast Game Conference.
I live in Boston with a stinky ferret, Fermata (2011 - 2016), and spend my free time lusting after sinful food and binge-watching rubbish telly.
